WHY 198 BOOKS?
Because I am considering the 193 UN member states and their two observer states (Palestine and the Vatican), plus Kosovo, Taiwan and Western Sahara.
WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?
The project has a start date (01/01/2019), but only time will tell when it will end.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE COUNTRIES?
I will draw a country at a time, in the most traditional way possible: I cut out the name of each of the 198 countries and they will be drawn from a little box at random. As soon as I start reading, I will draw the next country, so that there is time to choose and acquire a book. If I don't find any books from the country that fit the project, the country will be put on hold in the queue (until I find a book) and a new draw will be made.
HOW DO I CHOOSE THE BOOKS?
Suggestions are always welcome!
HOW TO FOLLOW UP THE PROJECT?
At the end of each reading, I will publish a post here on the blog with a short review of the book. All the information will be updated in the table below. To read the posts, just click on the name of the country.
WHERE DO I FIND THE BOOKS?
My preference is for printed books. I haven't managed to join the electronic trend yet. So I buy most of them at Amazon.
THE PROGRESS OF THE PROJECT
In this table I list all the books drawn, chosen and read. At the end of the project we will have 198 rows here. At the end of the table are the countries for which I have not yet managed to find any books. My hope is that by the end of the project there will be something available, otherwise I will have to choose alternative outlets, like reading a book by a foreign author about the country.

This project is amazing, isn't it? I'm going to start it together with my boyfriend, we decided that for each country we draw, one of us will choose the book for both of us. We've drawn Chile and Croatia (each one wanted to give it a go hahahaha.). I love the map you made! It's beautiful <3
Hi Priscilla, I agree, this project is really amazing! I love the fact that we can travel and learn about other countries and cultures without even leaving home! I love the way you and your boyfriend are alternating the choice of books, I'm sure this method of yours will keep the project always very fun and engaging!
